Community Singing Facilitation
Community Singing Facilitation draws on the philosophy of Community Music Victoria: Singing is our birthright and everyone can do it! Research shows that singing has positive benefits at physical, emotional and mental levels - regardless of how it sounds.
Community Singing facilitation can take place as a regular series (term by term) or for specific events. Once-off sessions may be appropriate for conferences, staff health days, parties, festivals and other events.
A typical community singing session invites participants to get to know each other through fun exercises, then leads into physical and vocal warm up exercises. The exercises lead easily into short songs that are accessible to any level of experience.
Workshops can also be designed to meet the training needs of staff, for example; 'Simple vocal warm ups' for teachers, or 'Using sound in therapeutic settings' for therapists.
Community Arts Program
Community Arts Programs of between 6-12 weeks duration can be developed to meet the specific needs of groups in health, education and community settings. The programs can focus on singing for fun in the moment, or work toward performance goals. Sessions can also incorporate songwriting elements, to give voice to the personal experience of participants.
Sacred Sound Sessions - Pastoral Care through Sound
In the context of healthcare and healing, Sacred Sound sessions can assist individuals to restore a sense of self, hope and reconnect with enjoyment of life. Sacred Sound sessions can incorporate meditation practice, gentle warm-ups, toning, chants and songs that awaken the heart to assist people to connect with and express their inner feelings, and work with Tibetan Singing Bowls.
Singing Warm-ups for Teaching & Child Care Professionals
River of Song offers a two-hour workshop to teaching and child care professionals who use their voices regularly but may not have a thorough understanding of the importance of warming up and good vocal technique. Appropriate for teachers, child care workers or those who present music programs in libraries or schools, warm ups are presented in an accessible format and a manual is available to take home.
All programs incorporate evaluation processes to ensure that River of Song services meet the needs of your organisation.
